HOROWITZ FOUNDATION FOR SOCIAL POLICY WELCOMES TWO NEW TRUSTEES TO ITS BOARD

New trustees bring expertise in educational technology, criminal justice, and social policy research

​

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — September 2025 — The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy is pleased to announce the appointment of two distinguished scholars, Professor Ryan Watkins and Professor Peter Moskos, to its Board of Trustees. Their combined expertise in educational technology, criminal justice, and applied research will strengthen the Foundation’s mission of supporting innovative doctoral research in the social sciences.

Ryan Watkins is a Professor of Educational Technology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He teaches and conducts research on the application of intelligent technologies in classrooms and workplaces. The author of 12 books and more than 100 scholarly articles, Professor Watkins has written extensively on needs assessment, instructional design, and the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research.

Peter Moskos is a Professor in the Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. A Princeton and Harvard trained sociologist, he is the author of four books, including his most recent, Back from the Brink, an oral history of New York City’s 1990s crime drop. A former Baltimore City police officer, Professor Moskos also serves as director of John Jay College’s NYPD Executive Master’s Leadership Program.

For more than 25 years, the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy has supported Ph.D. candidates in the social sciences by funding dissertation projects that address contemporary social issues. Each year, the Foundation awards twenty grants to promising scholars conducting research with the potential to influence both policy and practice.
